1998 Chevy Express 3500 Globetrottervan

This camper is the ultimate car for travelling around north america in style. Save money on gas with it’s high fuel effiency, camp out in the wild for free and still have your own watersupply, fridge and propane stove.
You want to go skiing in wintetime? No problem, there is an extra long storage area for skis and the car has been thouroughly insulated to keep you warm at night.
Or are you rather the summer person? The roof vent and the 6 windows will keep you cool, even in the desert! And the more sun there is, the faster your solar panel will recharge your 2 batteries. Yes, there also is a solar panel wich will charge your 2nd battery so you don’t have to run the engine or a generator all the time.
But what to do with all that power? Well how about after a nice day outside you plug your laptop into the 400W inverter, connect it with the nice and long audio cable to the cars sound system and enjoy music or your favorite movie?Still not convinced? Well how about this: Because we will go back to Europe and can’t take all the stuff, the camper comes fully equipped! You can just hop in there and go and you won’t miss a single thing.

We build this camper for an extended climbing, hiking and skiing roadtrip.  I wanted something with space to store all of our gear out of the way, to be comfortable for two people, and be self sufficient.  It’s done all of those thing perfectly, and been a great home for the last two years.

The camper conversion includes the following

  • 53 litres (14 gallons) fresh water storage with hand pump faucet in cooking area
  • Coleman 2 burner propane stove with gas bottle and hotplate
  • Waeco 40L 12V refrigerator
  • 400W inverter
  • Fluorescent and LED interior lights
  • Roof ventilation
  • Auxiliary power supplied by a 110 amp/hr deep cycle gel battery
  • 80 solar panel
  • 100W battery isolator
  • Roll-up/detachable awning with adjustable poles

The auxiliary battery is recharged by the solar panel at all times during the day and also by the engine charging system when the car is running.  When the car is not running the battery isolator cuts the connection between the auxiliary and main batteries so that the main battery is only used for starting and running the car.
